making and small-scale manufacturing

I have a daily habit of working on side projects, and I've come to appreciate the benefits of tracking that habit out in the open. If I'm doing work on a software project, I track that on GitHub. If it's more hands-on, I like to post an update here.

  1. Did you see that Prusa XL announcement video? (There's also a blog post.) I mean, I'm not going to buy one; way too big for my needs! But man, those features. CoreXY, fully automatic first-layer calibration, tool changer, load cell sensor... if those are the signs of printers to come, I see more Prusa in my future.

  2. It took time, and some trial and error, but I've finally created a working slicer profile for NonOilen. With that in hand, and my printer back under control, I've restarted my effort to create a physical product. More on that soon!

And since it's certain that I'll run into problems sooner or later, I want to be better prepared next time. Hopefully these books will help me step up my game!

  3. I found out yesterday that my newsletter sign-up form hadn't been working in Chrome. For months. Of course I had tested it regularly, but in Firefox.

Well, now I know more about the pitfalls of cross-browser compatibility, and you can finally sign up to my newsletter. If anything's not working, please let me know!

  4. I've been busy printing NonOilen. Experimented with settings, to try and print it without adhesive, but no luck due to warping problems. Maybe it's possible with an enclosure.

Happy to report that the crash last week doesn't seem to have caused any damage on the printer, as far as I can tell.
